Museum Het Valkhof

An extensive collection of Roman art and implements plus ancient and modern art reflecting the rich history of Nijmegen are on exhibition in Museum Het Valkhof.

Not only does Museum Het Valkhof display a large and important collection of Roman archaeology and a special collection of modern art, it also exhibits ancient art reflecting the rich history of Nijmegen.
The museum is located on the edge of Valkhofpark, home to a Roman army camp before Charlemagne had his castle built here. Today it boasts a lively, light and modern art and archaeology museum. The glass building was designed by Ben van Berkel, who also designed the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam.

Many visitors are surprised by the light and unusual interior. An impressive stairwell leads up to the museum gallery, offering a magnificent view of the river area. A series of changing exhibitions has been added to the permanent collections. There is a well-developed range of activities for children.
You are also welcome to visit the Museum Bar and the Museum Shop.
