Entertainment in Nijmegen
Did you know that Nijmegen has the highest “pavement café/inhabitant ratio” in the Netherlands? From a “brown café” to a “grand café”, in Nijmegen you can go to a different pub every day of the year. The fact that it is a university town contributes to the pleasant atmosphere.
Why not enjoy the view from the ever bustling Waalkade, perhaps followed by a visit to Holland Casino Nijmegen? Or go on board one of the round-trip boats to have dinner. Nijmegen is also known for the numerous performances in the Schouwburg and smaller theatres. LUX art house focuses on international cinema, debates and theatre & music. The Matrixx, in particular, is ideally suited to night owls wanting to enjoy the nightlife until the early hours.

In Arnhem, too, there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy great dishes from all over the world. With nearly every cuisine available, the town caters to suit everybody’s purse. Take the neighbourhood around the Korenmarkt, for example. This entertainment centre, the best-known in the region, has the perfect mix of culinary, café, culture and clubs, with the more than 30-year-old Focus Filmtheater in the heart of it. After dinner and a visit to the cinema or theatre you can dance the night away in one of the many cafés or clubs. Gelredome stadium hosts one or more spectacular concerts or other events every month.
Having a great time in a rural area
The smaller towns and villages in this area invite numerous opportunities to enjoy yourself. The many pancake farms are often set in stunning surroundings. During your walk or bike ride you will no doubt pass one of the many pleasant restaurants, cafés or country estates where you can have lunch, a cup of coffee and a piece of cake, and even a beer or a glass of wine.
Groesbeek in the south, just below Nijmegen, is also called the Dutch Wine Village. Guided tours and even tastings are available in the many vineyards. Combining this with a visit to the Nederlands Watermuseum is highly recommended.
Events
Countless events are organised in the Arnhem Nijmegen regio all year round. World Statues, Arnhem Mode Biënnale and Papendal Games are internationally known events in Arnhem. The International Four Day Marches and the Four Day Marches Festivities are the largest free outdoor events in Europe. Outside the larger towns there is a wide range of local events also worth visiting because of their attractive, intimate and unique character.
